Ready or not, winter is here! December 21st marks the winter solstice (and the shortest day of the year), so there’s no better time to start wrapping our minds around the cold temperatures ahead. Fear not, friends, for these with these chilly days comes tons of cold weather fun, including ice skating at this picturesque Colorado ice rink.
You may have skied Beaver Creek more times than you can count, but did you know that there is more to the area than just the slopes?
Case in point: the Beaver Creek Ice Rink!

Tucked away in charming Beaver Creek Village, the ice rink is about as picturesque as it gets, thanks to its pristine white ice, nearby hot chocolate and food vendors, and surrounding fireplaces.
Doesn't this just look like something from a festive Hallmark holiday movie?!
The cost to skate at Beaver Creek is $5 for those who bring their own skates. If you need to rent a pair, it costs $10 for those 12 and under and $15 for adults.
The Beaver Creek Ice Rink is located at 60 Avondale Ln. in Beaver Creek and is open every day from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. through April 14, 2019.

Spanning the must-see San Juan Mountains is the historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, which was even listed among "30 Of The World's Most Scenic Train Rides" by Lost Waldo. Talk about an honor (and one given with good reason).
Why the Durango & Silverton, you might ask? As per Lost Waldo, "Passengers —sadly probably without newly acquired riches, but with plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife — can otherwise evoke the past on this coal-fired steam locomotive, traveling the 45.4-mile route along the Animas River and trailing through the stark wildness and majestic canyons of Colorado’s San Juan National Forest."
So, in short, this unique railroading experience offers guests the chance to see Colorado without breaking the bank or overexerting themselves along a hiking trail.
Originally constructed to haul silver and gold ore from the San Juan Mountains to Denver, the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad was established in 1879 and offers a seat for every budget, ranging from standard class all the way up to the Victorian-inspired presidential class. Whether you're looking for a strictly affordable outing or a chance to indulge, you'll be pleased.
In addition to million-dollar views of the colorful mountains and cascading Animas River, the Durango & Silverton offers countless special events throughout the year. During the wintertime, guests can step aboard a magical Polar Express train.
This Christmas train ride is inspired by the classic book "The Polar Express," written by Chris Van Allsburg. For riders of all ages, the Polar Express ride is nothing short of enchanting.
Another popular option is the Wine and Rails ride, which appeals to those who appreciate fine wine and breathtaking views.
Delicious wine AND a ride through the San Juans? It doesn't get much better than this.
