The Centennial State is chock-full of haunted places that range from somewhat innocent and friendly to terrifying and sometimes downright morbid. While we do moreso enjoy the less-scary haunts, we wouldn't be doing our jobs if we didn't tell you the spine-tingling story behind this flat-out creepy and maybe even evil place that is sure to make your blood turn cold. This haunted place in Colorado is one for the campfire stories someday.
Tucked away in the hills of Colorado Springs' Bear Creek Park lies the historic Gold Camp Road, a road following an old rail line that once ran from Colorado Springs to Cripple Creek.
Once the railroad industry in Colorado began to decline, the line was converted into a road that included three of the railroad's original tunnels. What's so sinister about an old road, you ask?
According to legend, one of the tunnels completely collapsed while a school bus full of orphans was driving through, instantly killing the driver and children upon impact.
Since the children's (alleged) untimely deaths, those traveling to the area have reported several paranormal experiences, including the sound of children's screams, small and dusty handprints found on cars, and even the feeling of being pushed or scratched when no one is around.
While most of these claims have been made about the closed 3rd tunnel, others have reported strange occurrences in the other two as well.
Is this a haunted place in Colorado, or just a home to rumors and stories?
