This New Beer Spa in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, Is Unlike Any Soak I’ve Ever Taken

From the barley-and-hops-filled bubble bath and generous wine pours to the infrared chromotherapy sauna and waterfall shower, there is nothing not to love about the Bohemian Bier Spa in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

When I caught wind of a new Glenwood Springs beer spa opening this spring, I knew I had to arrange a visit. For those who don’t know, Glenwood Springs, Colorado, is a quaint, historic mountain town known for its geothermal hot springs, charming main street, Doc Holliday history, and extensive opportunities for outdoor adventure, from whitewater rafting and mountain biking to hiking and paragliding. For the most part, the town has an old-timey, red-brick-and-stone feel, so when I turned the corner from Grand Avenue onto 8th Street to be met by a striking black-and-white building and luxurious spa scents wafting down the street, I knew I was in the right place.

The Bohemian Bier Spa is one of the latest Colorado wellness experiences to make waves on social media. The European-inspired beer bath spa experience combines the benefits of a traditional spa with the 2,000-year-old Czech tradition of infusing bathwater with therapeutic barley, hops, yeast, and other botanicals for a frothy, fragrant soak you won’t soon forget. It’s unique to say the least—and that’s before even considering all the other amenities the Bohemian Bier Spa offers. Which is all to say: keep reading to learn what makes this new beer spa in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, well worth the drive.

What It’s Like Visiting the New Beer Spa in Glenwood Springs

Beer spas in Colorado aren’t a new concept. Oakwell Beer Spa in Denver has been drawing crowds since its opening in 2021. What sets the Bohemian Bier Spa in Glenwood Springs apart from the OG Colorado beer spa, however, is its commitment to the tradition. Where Oakwell is modern, sleek, and draped in greenery for a classic, serene spa experience, the Bohemian Bier Spa leans full tilt into the rustic-luxe European aesthetic that inspires the age-old ritual.

Before even setting foot into the establishment, a high-end, natural, earthy aroma fills the air, inviting passersby to peek in. Once inside, the luxurious spa scents surround you as the layered interior design grabs your attention at every glance. From the large, round, candlelit wrought iron chandeliers and exposed wood beams to the cozy velvet, sherpa, and leather lounge seating and central stone firepit that sits front and center the moment you walk in the door, I couldn’t help but go wide-eyed in delight of finding a New York-level spa in arguably the middle-of-nowhere Colorado. Even my fiancé—someone who is largely unaffected by aesthetics and frills—was impressed.

It wasn’t until we made it back to our treatment room, through the cavernous, lantern-lit hallway, however, that we realized just how special the Bohemian Bier Spa truly is.

Upon entrance, we were met with carafes of water and wine, a well-stocked charcuterie board with meats, cheeses, crackers, and spreads, and three wooden buckets filled with dried, milled barley, hops, and yeast, all of which our attendee mixed with a secret botanical bubble bath concoction and dumped into the respective tubs. Once our baths were stirred, she left the room, telling us to ring the bell if we needed anything at all.

Over the next hour and 15 minutes—which we kept track of with a stylish sand timer displayed by the door—we transitioned between the tubs and the sauna (Yes! A private sauna!), sipping and snacking as we indulged. As spectacular as our insanely bubbly soaks and sauna seshes were (truly, we felt like kids with the height of the suds), it was how soft and smooth our dry, Colorado-ravaged skin had become that made us instantly declare we will, most definitely be back.

What’s Included: Saunas, Soaks, and Craft Beer

At the Bohemian Bier Spa in Glenwood Springs, luxe inclusions are a given, not an add-on. The property features eight private therapy rooms, six of which have two handcrafted wooden jet tubs, resembling extended beer barrels (accommodating up to four people), and two of which have one jet tub (accommodating up to two people). If you want to visit the Colorado beer spa with a group of friends, there’s also the option to book the party room, in which the sliding door between two 4-person rooms can be opened for face-to-face sipping and sudsing.

The tub accommodations are just the beginning of the Bohemian Bier Spa perks. Each therapy room comes with a luxury rain shower and Clearlight Sanctuary Sauna, offering full-spectrum infrared chromotherapy, plus plush towels and robes. But that’s not all. When you book a 90-minute treatment session (the only duration offered), you get 48 ounces of beer or 27 ounces of wine per guest, where you can choose from six rotating local craft beers and Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio, all of which are on tap. More of a red wine drinker? There’s bottle service for that, but it’ll cost you. Seasonal mocktails, Athletic non-alcoholic beer, and fruit-and-veggie-infused spa water are also available.

No matter which room configuration you choose, the Bohemian Bier Spa treatment costs $199 per person.

Tips Before You Go (Reservations, Timing, What to Bring)

Since the Bohemian Bier Spa only has eight treatment rooms, it’s best to book ahead. Reservations can be made on their website or over the phone. Generally, weekends are busier than weekdays, and nights are busier than mornings and early afternoons. That said, if you look ahead, you’re sure to find the 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. availability that best fits your schedule.

Reservations and timing aside, there are a few things to keep in mind. The Bohemian Bier Spa offers in-room slides, but they’re one size, so you may prefer to bring your own sandals for the shower and/or sauna. Additionally, while there are no rules about wearing bathing suits during treatment, it’s something to consider packing. If you do bring a bathing suit, know this: You’ll want to wash it on its own (or with the other beer-soaked suits from your reservation) as soon as you get home. My fiancé and I stayed the night in Glenwood and went on a day-long hike the next day, so we left our suits in a plastic bag until we got home. By the time we washed them, it took one wash to realize they were making the rest of our laundry smell like barley and hops, and three washes on their own to get the scent out entirely. It’s not that they smelled bad, per se, but we didn’t want our favorite suits to smell beer-soaked for the rest of their days.

Why Glenwood Springs Is the Perfect Place for a Beer Spa

Now, here’s the thing: Glenwood Springs is located just over 2.5 hours west of Denver and just shy of 3 hours southwest of Boulder. Because of this, it’s not exactly convenient for a day trip. Still, I say it’s 100 percent worth the trek, as Glenwood Springs is the perfect place for a beer spa. For starters, the mountain town is a nationally-renowned destination for its expansive Glenwood Hot Springs and Yampah Spa & Vapor Caves. Then there’s the fact that the Casey Brewing Taproom, a Colorado craft beer scene must-visit, globally-recognized destination for sour beers, is located on Grand Avenue, a short 5-minute walk from the Bohemian Bier Spa. Unlike your typical brewery, the Casey Brewing Taproom feels more like a chic winery, with a minimalist marble slab tap wall and high-top tables throughout. In other words, when booking an appointment at the Bohemian Bier Spa, you might as well make a trip of it. For boutique accommodations near town, book a room at the 16-room Hotel 1888; for more campy charm (and more affordable prices), check out the dog-friendly cabins at Ponderosa Lodge
