In the heart of Indianola, Iowa, West Hill Brewing Co. is a hometown favorite that’s redefining what it means to be a local brewery. Sig Luscher Brewery, established in 1866 by Swiss immigrant Sigmund Luscher, holds the distinction of being Kentucky's oldest brewery and the eighth oldest in the United States. After his original brewery in Memphis was destroyed during the Civil War, Luscher relocated to Frankfort, where he took over the Capitol Brewing Company. He became a prominent community figure, trading yeast with distillery magnate E.H. Taylor Jr. and even patenting one of the first industrial ice machines.

The brewery closed in 1891 upon Luscher's death, and Frankfort remained without a local brewery for 127 years. In 2018, Luscher’s great-great-great-grandson, Timothy Luscher, and Nathan Cryder revived the brewery at 221 Mero Street, just across from the original site. Gnarly Barley Brewing Co., in the heart of Hammond, Louisiana, began as a homebrewing venture in Zac and Cari Caramonta's garage and eventually evolved into a full-fledged brewery in 2014. In the scenic hills of Little Orleans, Maryland, Locust Post Brewery is a hidden gem that seamlessly blends rustic charm with craft beer excellence. Founded by Tony and Denise Cornwell, both artists, the brewery is located on a 26-acre farmstead just off I-68, about halfway between Cumberland and Hagerstown. The brewery's name pays homage to the Black Locust posts used to anchor hop bines flourishing in the adjacent fields. Located in downtown Lincoln, Nebraska, in the historic Grand Manse building, Boiler Brewing Company is a place craft beer aficionados know. Barrel aged, small batch, with extra attention to design. The Mixtape line is our favorite, featuring a "mixtape" of hops and flavors unlike anything you've ever seen—or sipped.

Lovelady Brewing is the kind of small town spot where everybody knows your name. The idea for Lovelady Brewing Company started many years ago in the backyard of the Lovelady house where twins Richard and Robert starting brewing their own beer. Their friends immediately dubbed it “Dick and Bob’s Brew” and today, Lovelady is a favorite among folks in Henderson, Nevada, not only because of the awesome ales, but because this local brewery is always finding ways to give back to its community.

One of "OGs" according to longtime fan Rachael G., Moat Mountain Brewing Company recently celebrated 25 years in the brewery biz. Its secret? Located in a historic building circa 1929, the classic brick warehouse that currently houses Stonecloud Brewing Company spent most of its life housing the Sunshine Laundry Cleaners (the inspiration for Stonecloud's logo, in fact) before becoming vacant in the '80s. Time had been most unkind to the building, but after several years of work the owners were able to complete a full historic preservation of the building and put it on the National Historic Registry.

Inside this Oklahoma City brewery you’ll find an expansive production space which houses a 30 bbl brewing system as well as two taproom spaces. Cult favorites include the Astrodog IPA and Chug Norris Pale Ale (we love a good pun).

Oregon is known for its extraordinary wine country, but the state's climate also provides the perfect conditions for excellent beer. In charming coastal Astoria, Fort George Brewery is one such standout. Riverside Brewing Company is a charming spot that's a lovely destination following a scenic drive to Erie, Pennsylvania. Only In Your State reader Brandy O. loves the vibes: "[Riverside] was an old barn remodeled to a restaurant, one side open up to sit outdoors by huge stone fireplace, there is a silo bar outside, a place for entertainment to perform, with another bar inside too. Everything is out of old barn wood." The ales are all awesome, but readers also give Riverside high marks for its non-alcoholic options, including the house-made root beer.

Wild Heart Brewing Company in Hartsville received Only In Your State's pick as the best brewery in South Carolina for so many reasons (and votes). But no one said it better than reader Michelle K: "Instead of tearing down the old feed store that was there for many, many years, the new owners kept the store after the death of the original owner, made updates and expanded [maintaining] of the history of the building and bringing a new beginning to this piece of our hometown." A micropub in Midvale, Utah, Bohemian Brewery has been brewing European heritage Lager Beers and serving exceptional old-world comfort food since 2001.
