One of the most popular mountain towns in Colorado is that of beautiful Aspen. While most everyone knows all about Aspen's incredible surroundings, skiing, celebrity homes, shopping, and dining, there is another aspect to this town that we just can't get enough of. What is it? Read on to find out...
Incorporated in 1881, Aspen is a historic mining town that was originally founded as a mining camp during the Colorado Silver Boom. Later renamed Aspen because of the large amounts of Aspen trees throughout the area, the town is now home to nearly 7,000 residents as well as some of the prettiest landscape and most expensive real estate in the country. In addition to the charming architecture found in the homes and businesses around town, we can't get enough of another kind of Aspen architecture, which can be experienced when crossing these 4 breathtaking bridges:
1. Sheely Bridge
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Sheely Bridge opened in 1911 as a way for pedestrians to cross the Roaring Fork River at Mill Street Park.
2. Maroon Bells Bridge
Quite possibly one of the most gorgeous bridges in not just Aspen, but the entire state is this Maroon Bells footbridge, which leads travelers to the world-famous Maroon Bells-Snowmass Area.
3. Maroon Creek Bridge
Built of heavy duty steel, the Maroon Creek Bridge is no longer in use, but remains upright because of its status on the National Register of Historic Places.
4. Terral Wade Bridge
There is no better way to end our tour than by visiting the large and impressive Terral Wade Bridge, which links Maroon Creek Road with the Aspen Rec Center.
