The Natural Water Slide In Northern California Most People Don’t Know About
Little Backbone Creek near Shasta Lake in Northern California features a natural water slide and scenic hiking.
Shasta Lake is an amazing vacation destination here in Northern California, but few people have heard of the natural water slide located just a 20 minute hike from the lake's shores. Known as Little Backbone Creek, this gorgeous swimming hole should be on everyone's bucket list.
Little Backbone Creek is located near Shasta Lake, which is hugely popular among boating enthusiasts when the temperatures are warm.
Many families who visit rent out house boats and stay right out on the water.
The best way to access the falls is by boat. It's located across from Digger Bay. Head into the inlet, go all the way to the back until you see the creek and anchor here.
Hike up the creek, which is in a canyon. You'll pass a series of crystal clear ponds and boulders.
The entire hike in takes about 20 minutes and is incredibly scenic.
The red rocks here are full of minerals, so it's a good idea to wear dark bottoms or swim trunks if you plan on sliding so the color doesn't stain.
Be cautious as you hike as the rocks are slippery! The level of the water also varies from year to year and throughout the season.
Once you reach the pool with the natural slide, you will be impressed by the idyllic scenery. Jump in and use the rope to climb up to the top of the falls.
We definitely recommend sliding down the falls. Look how much fun these gals are having!

Be sure to pack out any trash and leave the place cleaner than you found it. It's a remarkable natural treasure, and we want to make sure it stays that way for generations to come. Fast forward to about 2:10 to see someone climb up the rope and slide on in.
