No matter your religious affiliation, we can all appreciate the opulent splendor that places of worship often boast. The Mesa Arizona Temple is an architectural wonder that's the closest thing we have to a palace here in the Grand Canyon State. It's temporarily open to the public after three years of renovations, so you'll definitely want to come and take a tour.
The Mesa Arizona Temple is the seventh operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It was first dedicated in October 1927.
Spanning 20 acres, the opulent structure stands at an impressive height of 50 feet.
In 2018, the temple was closed for extensive remodeling.
A rededication is scheduled for December 12, 2021, but the public is allowed (and encouraged) to visit in the meantime.
Both the interior and exterior have been modernized, with the visitors' center undergoing some of the most noteworthy changes.
The 18,000-square-foot facility now includes an interactive play area for children, a museum-like community room with historical exhibits, and a teen lounge, among other exciting additions.
Over 500,000 guests descend on the temple each year for its annual Christmas lights display, which features a nativity scene and other beautiful decorations.
The spectacle is free and visitors are always welcome.
The temple also hosts an Easter pageant entitled "Jesus the Christ," and has done so since 1938.
It's the largest outdoor Easter pageant on Earth, attracting over 75,000 people each year. For the most accurate information regarding both events, be sure to check the temple's website frequently.
Even after the open house, the public is welcome to stroll the newly redesigned grounds.
The perfectly manicured landscape features an expanded reflection pool, more than 300 olive and palm trees, and myriad other greenery and colorful flowers.
Address: 101 South Lesueur, Mesa, AZ 85204.
The open house runs through November 20, from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. daily. One-hour time slots can be reserved online at no charge.
Visit the temple's website or Facebook page for more information and/or to reserve a time slot.
