The Whimsical Playground In Alaska That’s Straight Out Of A Storybook
Project Playground at Twin Lakes in Juneau, Alaska, is a community-built playground with an undersea theme, offering year-round enjoyment for children.
Alaska's state capital city of Juneau is nestled in a lush area of the panhandle, with stunning views of the Gastineau Channel and Mount Roberts as far as the eyes can see. Adults love the pristine beauty that the area offers, but kiddos can get a bit stir crazy due to the immense amount of rainfall (and snow) that is common in the area.
When this magical outdoor playground was dreamt up in 2005 and finished a handful of years later, the entire town rejoiced in the phenomenal masterpiece that it undeniably became. We are ecstatic to present to you with the story behind Project Playground at Twin Lakes. Enjoy!
The goal of this playground was that it be built with the love, care and compassion of community members - from the creative imaginations and perspectives of Alaskan children.
As you walk around, you will find magical castles and beautiful painted artwork at every twist and turn.
This entire playground was a creative community partnership of grassroots efforts, non-profit volunteers, businesses and the City & Borough of Juneau, Alaska's capital city.
It took 1,500 neighbors who worked over 17,000 hours to construct this magical playground paradise in just three weeks.
Prior to getting to work, the planning and fundraising took over a two-year period to be finalized.
The undersea world theme fits perfectly with Alaska's deep-rooted fishing industry.
Wild, natural, sustainable seafood is the name of the game in Alaska. In fact, Alaskans rely on the plentiful seafood sources to feed their families and pay their bills.
