This Viking Festival In Alaska Will Transport You Back In Time And Across The Globe
Celebrate Norwegian culture and the return of spring at The Little Norway Festival in Petersburg, Alaska.
After a long, long Alaskan winter, there's nothing we enjoy more than a spring festival, and one that celebrates Norwegian culture is even better! Check out The Little Norway Festival to celebrate sweet Norwegian folk traditions...and some Vikings, too!
Spring is upon us at long last, and it's time to climb off the couch and into the fresh, Alaskan air. Head to the little town of Petersburg for one of the best festivals in the state.
The Little Norway Festival celebrates Norwegian independence and the return of spring to Alaska. Norway's constitution was signed on May 17, 1814, so the festival always falls on or around that date.
Many Alaskans have Nordic roots, and you'll love the spirit of history and heritage you'll find here. From the smallest festival goers festooned in folk costumes...
...to the burliest, boldest, most beautiful Vikings, everyone loves to dress up for this celebration.
There's no need to sit in the snow all alone...get in on the action!
There's plenty to see and do during The Little Norway Festival. Participate in the parade, or watch from the sidelines. You're certain to see all kinds of characters.
Play some old-fashioned Norwegian games, like this one where you don't want to be the guy who drops the fish.
You'll find areas for the kiddos to play, and you'll want to make sure to watch for the calendar so you can check out all the dancing, singing, and other performances throughout the festival.
It goes without saying that there's certain to be plenty of food. Enjoy Alaska's top-notch seafood, and try out a few Norwegian delicacies, too.
This year's Little Norway Festival will run May 16th through May 19th. Make sure to put it on your calendar now - this is one festival you don't want to miss!
