If you’re looking for a fun adventure outside, this bridge to nowhere in Alaska is a great place to start! Located on a hiking trail in Denali National Park, this easy trail takes you along the river to a bridge right in the middle of nowhere. Follow it to find a gorge railroad bridge, where occasionally you may even see the Alaska Railroad pass overhead!
There’s a stunning little hike in Denali National Forest that you have to try this year.
Meandering through a forest, and along a gorgeous river, this hike offers it all. Great scenery, plenty of interesting details, and a clear, well-marked path.
The McKinley Station Trail starts right off of Denali Park Road.
This loop trail is just under three miles long, and a beauty to behold. It will take about an hour and a half to complete it, depending on your skill levels.
First you’ll hike through the Boreal Forest.
The trail is graded and well-marked and you’ll climb no more than 374 feet of elevation throughout the hike. This makes it a great family hike because little legs will have no problem keeping up with you.
The trail reaches the river, where you’ll come across the railroad bridge and another, smaller footbridge.
You’ll come along the river about halfway through your hike, and it’s a good place to take a quick rest if you need one.
The log bridge is fun to cross and a great way to get a good view of the train trestle.
You can add on to the loop by taking other trails that connect and making it longer. There are so many great ways to enjoy this hike.
You may even see the Alaska Railroad pass overhead as you hike.
The hike is within Denali National Park, which is a designated wilderness. There’s plenty of wildlife nearby, so pack bear spray, and stay vigilant along the trail.
This is a great family hike to do all season long.
