Fort Morgan is a historic masonry star fort that, at one time, was considered the best example of military architecture in the New World. Construction on this historic site began in 1819 and was completed in 1834.
Sadly, during the Civil War's Battle of Mobile Bay, Fort Morgan was set on fire and several people died.
Since then, the ghosts of several soldiers have been spotted roaming about the grounds of Fort Morgan. A prisoner also committed suicide in 1917 by hanging himself. During the late night hours, several people have reported hearing his cries.
One of the most famous ghosts that several people have reported seeing is that of a young woman. According to several stories, she was attacked during the 19th century and has been searching for her assailant ever since.
Fort Morgan was completely closed and abandoned in July 1944. However, it's still one of Alabama's top historic sites that's open to the public today.
