At the start of every year, even when I'm exhausted, there is a sense of rejuvenation in the air. New beginnings with the start of a new year. In the month of January, I like to plan my annual travel, peppering in many things that I can get excited about and look forward to throughout the year. Some of the travel includes out of state, but most of it involves exploring within state lines.

There are so many bucket list-worthy places in Alabama to enjoy on a weekend trip or a single-day excursion that I've decided to create my own list of go-tos. Here are 26 things to do in Alabama in 2026 that will get you excited about traveling in the year ahead.

Plus, admission to the festival grounds is free! The next festival is Oct. 8 through 11, 2026.
