The Hidden Park That Will Make You Feel Like You’ve Discovered Connecticut’s Best Kept Secret
Looking for a quiet place with a wealth of natural beauty? How about wide open spaces and marked trails? If that sounds like fun to you, then this is the place you’ve been looking for. Hidden Valley Preserve is an often forgotten park, part of a much larger collection of preserved woodland. But it’s about to be your new favorite place…
Hidden Valley Preserve is 650 acres of rolling hillsides, covered in trees. But there are also some rocky areas and a number of meadows, making this spot perfect for nature lovers seeking a little escape.
Situated beside the Shepaug River, you can enjoy the pine groves and hemlocks to the peaceful tune of running water. It's easy to forget that freight trains once crossed here.
Especially since the tracks have been replaced with trails. There are plenty of quick and easy trails to choose from here, perfect for beginners or folks just looking for a relaxing stroll.
The Henry David Thoreau Footbridge is a lovely compliment to the landscape, and makes for a super easy (and handicap accessible) walking path. Not to mention the view of the river, which is extremely beautiful during the fall.
The Hidden Valley Preserve is located at 2 Green Hill Road, Washington, Connecticut 06794. But this park isn’t the only place you can find some wonderfully easy paths – check out these Hikes Under 5 Miles for more great trails in Connecticut!
