1. Silver Sands State Park
1 Silver Sands Park Way, Milford, CT 06460
This place is absolutely jaw-dropping and consists of marsh, grassland, and beach. At 297 acres, you could spend a whole weekend here. If you stick around for low tide, you'll also be able to walk along a sand bar to Charles Island.
2. Bluff Point
Depot Road, Groton, CT 06340
This peninsula remains mostly untouched and offers some of the most scenic views in the state. A beautiful 2 mile hike through a wooded area will get you to the white sand beach where you can enjoy a view of the New London Ledge Lighthouse.
3. Thimble Islands
Stony Creek Town Dock, 4 Indian Point Road, Branford, CT 06405
Take one of the cruises for a relaxing sunset ride through Connecticut's collection of scenic islands. There are three boats to choose from, each taking a different path, but all of them offering a good time.
4. Saville Dam
14 Saville Dam Road, Barkhamsted, CT 06063
This embankment is unlike any other. At 1,950 feet long and 135 feet tall, the masonry work on this dam is incredible. It's an ideal spot for a picnic or even a proposal. It's basically a castle tower on water!
5. Harkness Memorial State Park
Great Neck Road, Waterford, CT 06385
This 230 acre park and botanical garden will make you feel like the 18th century elite. Wander the intricate mansion archways and take the boardwalk to the beach to complete this fairy tale adventure.
6. Elizabeth Park
1561 Asylum Avenue, West Hartford, CT 06117
Another must-see garden adventure, this central Connecticut locale features 102 acres of sights and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. You won't believe the vibrant flowers that are grown here.
7. Walnut Beach
113 East Broadway, Milford CT 06460
Known for its picture perfect pier and the bluest waters in the state, it doesn't get any more fairy tale than this place. Soft white sand and unparalleled sunsets push it over the top.
8. Devil's Hopyard
366 Hopyard Road, East Haddam, CT 06423
More of a dark fantasy fan? Then venture to this mythical-feeling preserve likened to Middle Earth. It's rumored to be a hangout of the devil himself.
9. Gillette Castle
67 River Road, East Haddam, CT 06423
What's more fairy tale than a castle? This one was built by the famous actor William Gillette and is just as quirky as he is. Not to mention the views of the river.
10. Wadsworth Falls
727 Wadsworth Street, Middletown, CT 06457
My pick for the most romantic falls, avoid the crowds of larger contenders and enjoy a late afternoon with your feet in the water. It's a pretty magical way to spend the day and the hike is super easy. It's especially gorgeous in the fall.
11. Lighthouse Point Park
2 Lighthouse Rd., East Haven, CT 06512
This beautiful rocky shoreline is perfect for a leisurely stroll, and the property includes a historic lighthouse and an expertly crafted carousel. You'll definitely feel like a kid again when you visit this spot.
12. Sleeping Giant Tower
200 Mt. Carmel Avenue, Hamden, CT 06518
This mountaintop viewing deck will completely wow you with its panoramic views. A visit to this pristine stone wonder is definitely worth the hike. It's also the place of much folklore.
