A Secret Door Will Take You To An Underground Restaurant In Connecticut
Typically, when we’re talking about “underground restaurants in Connecticut,” we mean that in the metaphorical sense. Maybe the restaurant is a hidden gem, or just a bit under-the-radar and not as well-known as more popular joints. In today’s article, we’re going to be talking about a restaurant that is quite literally underground. Celtic Cavern is located in, well, a cavern, under the streets of Middletown. Watch your step and head on down, because this place is a delight! The food and atmosphere are both fantastic.
This place was the first gastropub in Middletown. A gastropub is differentiated from a bar or traditional pub in that they focus on serving high quality foods along with alcohol.
You have to travel down quite a steep set of stairs to enter the Celtic Cavern. There's a tricky step at the bottom that is easy to trip over, so make sure to watch your step!
One thing that is definitely not bar-like is the quality of the food! It's superb, and you have access to the whole menu until quite late. The kitchen is open much later than many restaurants in the area, so it's a great spot for a late-night meal.
The name often leads people to believe that the restaurant's specialty is Irish food, but they actually serve American fare. The offerings change regularly, depending on what is in season.
