We have some seriously special restaurants in Connecticut. There are a lot of places so closely entwined with the Nutmeg State that you can't imagine them existing elsewhere. One truly unique place is Bloodroot. This Bridgeport institution has been around since 1977. It's a vegetarian restaurant and feminist bookstore. You'll enjoy deliciously authentic ethnic foods from a variety of cultures. If you want an extraordinary dining experience you won't find anywhere else, Bloodroot in Connecticut is the restaurant for you!
Bloodroot is a gem of a restaurant that's long been a favorite local gathering place.
The general atmosphere here is not like most restaurants and it feels more like an offbeat coffee shop.
The restaurant was founded by Bloodroot Collective, a group that branched out of the Westport chapter of the National Organization for Women. Bloodroot still lives up to its activist roots and holds occasional feminist workshops and lectures. The founders are still heavily involved in day-to-day operations and you'll often find them working in the restaurant.
If you like trying different foods, this is the spot for you! The menu changes seasonally according to what is locally grown throughout the year.
All of the dishes are vegetarian or vegan and come from a variety of cultures.
The outdoor dining area is a beautiful place in itself...
...but the views outside are even more incredible!
Cozying up in the "living room" area will make you feel right at home. The staff are so friendly and happy to help you choose a dish or a book.
Bloodroot's soups are especially delicious. Portuguese kale and potato, zucchini and lemon, split pea, spicy ginger carrot... you never know what tasty treats will be on the menu!
Between the delicious food and the comfortable atmosphere where views can be discussed freely, this is really a gem of a place!
