Do you come from Scandinavian descent? If your ancestors hailed from Denmark, Norway, and/or Sweden, congratulations, as you are a tried and true Viking (I think)! That being said, if you have Viking blood, an affinity for the culture, or just really liked the History Channel mini-series, you will want to visit the new, one-of-a-kind Drekar Meadery in Colorado:

Welcome to the brand-new Drekar Meadery, which is home to "Old-world honey wine in the heart of Colorado Springs."

Opened in January 2020, Drekar Meadery is the brainchild of a couple of buddies from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs who wanted to honor their Scandinavian ancestors with homebrewed mead in a unique setting.

After perfecting their recipe and having numerous people ask for it, Drekar was born and is now serving their popular drink to Southern Colorado.

What exactly is mead? It is an alcoholic drink with a pretty decent ABV that is made from fermented honey and water, which creates a unique taste that has satisfied for generations.

When you visit the Drekar Meadery, you will find the traditional recipe, but other renditions that are made with the likes of raspberries and blackberries.

In addition to the drink itself, you are guaranteed to love the unique ambiance at Drekar, which is comprised of - you guessed it - old-world, Viking inspired decor and touches.

The Drekar Meadery is open Tuesday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
