Multiple factors were used to determine what "best" means for retirees. One of Arkansas' highest scores came from healthcare conditions. Not only does our state have a high nursing-home capacity, we also have affordable healthcare cost compared to other states.
Climate was another element taken into consideration for retirement states.

The Natural State may have weather that changes every five minutes but the overall climate is consistently comfortable, especially compared to other states. Droughts or heavy blizzards aren't something Arkansas retirees need to worry about!

In addition to the projected consistency of living costs and climate, the current popularity of the state was looked at for the study.

This is more than a mere popularity contest. Census data for ages 65 and older was reviewed to see the population of retirees in Arkansas. This data showed that a large number of retirement-age residents know our state is the best - they're already here!

Safety was another factor looked at with current data. Although this was Arkansas' lowest score out of the five, the state can certainly still offer peaceful living for retirees.
Arkansas may have been third in the nation but we sure think it's the best!

Florida and Iowa were the only states to beat Arkansas based on the five factors of healthcare, personal security, local economy, weather, and popularity. We're a bit bias but we know Arkansas can be the number one spot for a relaxing and scenic retirement.
