Nearly everyone played in a sandbox at least once during childhood. Reliving those memories as an adult is entirely possible here in Arizona, although this experience might be a tad more memorable. This giant park near Yuma is full of undulating sand dunes, some of which stand over 300 feet tall! Whether you’re a motocross enthusiast or simply enjoy taking in beautiful scenery, Imperial Sand Dunes is a can’t-miss attraction.
Over 40 miles of dunes span California Imperial Valley's eastern edge, and Yuma serves as the gateway to this mesmerizing natural sandbox. It's a national recreation area that attracts millions of off-road vehicle owners each year.
Some of the dunes are nearly 300 feet tall! It’s the ultimate thrill for motocross enthusiasts, but anyone who visits will be impressed, even if they’re not here to ride.
If you look hard enough on a clear day, the Mexican border fence can be seen in the distance. It appears to levitate above the sand - a truly perplexing sight that has to be witnessed firsthand.

As is the case with most places in Arizona, sunsets here are absolutely unparalleled. Consider renting a campsite to experience the majestic views in all their glory.
