Hike The Snowy Boardwalks With Peekaboo Mountain Views On This Easy Trail In Alaska

If you want to get outside and enjoy everything that winter has to offer, this easy snowy boardwalk trail in Alaska fits the bill! The Eagle River Greenbelt Access Trail is an easy trail with a big payoff. Hike through a gorgeous boreal forest before the river opens up the scenery and grants you plenty of great views of the mountains beyond. Suit up and head on out on this great hike!

There’s a great little hike in Eagle River that will take you down a boardwalk and out into the forest.

On the Eagle River Greenbelt Access Trail, you’ll hike all the way down to Eagle River on a pretty well-maintained trail. There are boardwalks to keep you up and above the wettest parts, and gorgeous bridges and a trail that cuts through towering trees.
If there’s a light dusting of fresh snow on the boardwalk it may be a little slippery, so mind your footing as you head out.

The trail is relatively easy, with only 643 feet of elevation gain throughout its entirety. It’s a nice trail that offers fun, changing scenery and beautiful mountain views.
The entire hike is 4.5 miles, out and back.

The weather can change pretty quickly, so be sure to pack layers in case a snowstorm rolls in. It’s better to be prepared!
The river freezes quite beautifully, but mind your step in case it hasn’t frozen completely when you get there.

Read up about backcountry ice safety, and when in doubt, avoid going out on the river. There’s plenty of other views to steal your attention away!

Whether you’re hiking it in the morning or afternoon, the light is gorgeous on the nearby peaks. Who doesn’t love being in a state like Alaska where views like this are essentially outside your front door?
There is a $5.00 daily parking fee to park in the lot at the head of this trail.

The Chugach State Park also offers an annual fee option if you’d like to get out more frequently and enjoy the parks all year long. You can pick up a Chugach State Park Annual Pass at REI in Anchorage before the hike.
This is such a gorgeous hike to do all year long, but there’s something extra special in the winter time.
