This route that winds from Anchorage all the way to Seward is filled with towering mountain tops, beautiful forest, and gorgeous scenery. Hop in a car and enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime ride!
There’s a 127-mile highway that winds its way from Anchorage to Seward.
This Alaskan highway is a USDA Forest Service Scenic Byway, Alaska Scenic Byway, and All-American Road. Each designation is well deserved.
The highway is nationally recognized for its scenic, natural, historical, and recreational values.
The highway was completed in 1951 and has survived the Good Friday Earthquake, rockslides, avalanches, and more. It’s a stunning drive that offers so much to be seen.
The first 50 miles of the road take you past the base of the Church Mountain range.
You’ll follow the tidal Cook Inlet, where plenty of wildlife love to frolic. Keep your eyes peeled for beluga whales, Dahl sheep, and more.
After you pass Girdwood and Portage you’ll make your way to the Hope Junction.
You’ll cross over Canyon Creek Bridge. Make sure to stop and enjoy the view!
Seward Highway begins to wind up and above the mountains, and into Turnagain Pass.
The Kenai Mountain range is absolutely stunning and will take you the rest of the way to Seward. You’ll rise high above the impressive Kenai Lake, where you can peek down into its turquoise waters.
After passing the small and charming town of Moose Pass, you’ll end up in Seward.
It’s hard to believe that such a gorgeous drive is actually one of the most popular and well-traveled roads in Alaska. Driving it is just another amazing way to soak up the Last Frontier’s beauty.
