If you’re looking for a stunning sight right off of one of the largest highways in the state, the pullout in front of Matanuska Glacier in Glacier View, Alaska is an incredible place to stop and rest awhile. Alaska’s many glaciers are usually too far off the road system to see them without hiking in, but this is a gem that’s right out in the open for everyone to admire.
If you're on the hunt for a road trip somewhere beautiful, Matanuska Glacier is a great spot to take a drive to.
The Glenn Highway connects Anchorage to eastern Alaska, and is one of the most scenic highways in America. Heading over mountains and beside raging rivers, this is a highway that begs to be visited.
One of the most stunning scenes on the Glenn Highway is Matanuska Glacier.
This glacier is 27 miles long by 4 miles wide, and it is the largest glacier in the United States that is accessible to drive up to. There's a fantastic pullout right on the Glenn Highway that gives you picture perfect views of the glacier and the valley below.

About a hundred miles outside of Anchorage, as you head into Glacier View you'll find this glacier spilling out in the valley on your right hand side.
Their is a great hike that leads you around Matanuska Glacier that you can explore. There are also a couple of adventure groups that will take you out ice climbing.
If you find yourself with some extra time and feel an itch to get on the road, then head down the Glenn Highway to this beautiful sight.
Pack a picnic and stay in the pullout for a rest, and enjoy the beautiful springtime view. This is a beautiful drive that should experienced by everyone!
