Visitors of Fort Gaines will also get to see an area that was hit by a shell from the USS Chickasaw during the Battle of Mobile Bay. This is located on one of Fort Gaines' south walls.

In addition to having lots of history, Fort Gaines is also believed to be haunted. Several visitors have reported screaming sounds and the feeling of cold spots while exploring the historic site. Many have also witnessed the spirits of military-dressed men roaming the grounds. Is Fort Gaines really haunted, though? You'll have to visit to find out for sure.
