What most people don’t know, however, is that one of the most credible close encounters in history occurred right here in Texas. The Levelland UFO Case is baffling, eerie, and absolutely fascinating, and I can’t wait to tell you all about it.

There isn't much to see in Levelland, Texas...which makes the story I'm about to tell you that much more believable.
This small, dusty town in the Texas Panhandle is the site of the November 2-3 Levelland UFO Case, which ufologists consider to be one of the most credible UFO sightings in history.
It all started on the evening of November 2, 1957 when two farm workers called the Levelland Police Department to report a possible UFO sighting.
The men stated they witnessed a blue flash of light near the road they were traveling on, which was located about four miles west of Levelland. Once the object was out of view, the truck started normally.

The men also claimed that at the same time as their truck's engine died, an object shaped like a rocket flew overhead. It was hot, loud, and created a great rush of wind.
No more than an hour later, another driver named Jim Wheeler reported a similarly-shaped object blocking his path on a road four miles east of Levelland. His car also died, and as he exited the vehicle, the object took flight. Wheeler's car also started just fine once the object departed.
Over the course of the evening, the Levelland Police Department received a staggering 15 calls regarding UFO sightings in the area. Even the local sheriff and fire chief witnessed the mysterious flying objects.
Due to the consistency and sheer number of the sightings, Project Blue Book, the U.S. Air Force branch dedicated to investigating UFOs, decided to investigate.
The Project Blue Book investigator concluded that the alleged UFO sightings were actually ball lightning, a natural phenomenon that occurs during severe electrical storms.
Hynek also stated that ball lightning cannot cause automobile failure. Additionally, the Project Blue Book investigator only interviewed nine of the 15 witnesses.
