If you’re headed out to Moose Pass for a trip, the Victor Creek Trail should be at the top of your list. This stunning trail takes you up into Chugach National Forest, giving you stunning views of the mountains nearby. This moderately easy hike is a good one to get out and stretch your legs on!

A beautiful summer hike, it also has a lot of stunning views in the fall. There’s also great berry picking along the trail in autumn, so be prepared to enjoy yourself immensely.
The trail starts right on the Seward Highway and switchbacks up for about a mile.

You’ll hike most of the elevation gain in the beginning, about 636 feet. After that, the trail levels out and becomes a much easier hike.
The entire trail is about 3.2 miles, out and back.

It’s well maintained. If you continue on the trail and it begins to deteriorate, you may have gone past the official trail. The area is still beautiful, but the trail starts to become a little overgrown.

This trail is a treat to hike, even if it starts to get a little colder.

Even if you find snow and ice along the trail, the views are still worth it. There’s so much wonder in the area.
But do be aware that there can be avalanches during the winter and spring, so if you’re out hiking in the snow, make sure you are up to date on the avalanche danger warning signs.

There’s parking for two cars at the trailhead. If you find those spots taken, there’s another pullout about 100 yards down the highway where you can park.
Interestingly, the Victor Creek Trail is actually a small segment of the longer Iditarod National Historic Trail.

There’s plenty of wildlife in and along the trail, so come bear aware. This trail isn’t hiked very often, so be prepared to be the only hiker out there. Practice good backcountry safety, and enjoy yourself along the way!

You can access the trailhead at Mile 19.7 on the Seward Highway. It’s a quick drive from Seward, and makes for the perfect day trip!
