Four Mile Historic Park Is One Of The Best Parks In Denver

For those who live in Denver, sometimes it’s nice to step away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Thankfully, they don’t have to travel far to do just that. There is a 12-acre park in Glendale that is a historic and beautiful oasis for city-dwellers to step away from their busy lives and be transported into Denver’s pioneer past.

Four Mile Historic Park, located at 715 S. Forest St., in Denver, CO 80246, offers a farm setting that will allow visitors to experience Denver's western heritage like never before.

Get ready for an unforgettable journey back to 1859 as you take in the historic demonstrations, classes, and other activities that cater to visitors of all ages.

When visiting, make sure you take time to tour the centerpiece of the park, the Four Mile House Museum which holds the title of Denver's Oldest Standing Structure.

The park is open year-round. You'll want to grab a map and a "Family Activity Pack" that make your time venturing around the park even more exciting.

Visitors truly get a taste of the old west as they explore the old structures on-site.

This root cellar (with a sod-covered roof) was used for storing various food items because it kept things much cooler than the outside temperatures.

You'll definitely want to stop to meet the animals on the farm including horses, goats, and chickens.

There are many opportunities for hands-on learning at this park. You can even give gold panning a try.

Or maybe you would be interested in visiting a functional Blacksmith shop where you can watch actual blacksmithing first-hand as items are created for the park's gift shop.

Visitors also get to travel as the early settlers did on a horse-drawn wagon ride.

The Park, Museum, and General Store are open from October through March with the following hours: Wednesday through Sunday from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. with guided museum tours at 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m.

From April through September, they have the following hours: Wednesday through Friday from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. with guided museum tours at 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. and on Saturday and Sundays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. with guided tours at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m.

To obtain tickets, visit the front desk inside the main entrance of the Grant Family Education Center. Ticket prices are as follows: Adults (18-64) – $5, Seniors (65+) and Military (w/ID) – $4, Youth (7-17) – $3, and children ages 6 and under are free.

They also offer free admission for all on their “Four Mile Free Days” every second Friday of the month from 12-4 p.m.
