Most of these films that were set in Alaska were also filmed in Alaska. With the exception of a couple, all of these films boast the beautiful and intense wilderness that Alaska is well known for.

I don't want to give away any spoilers here but the first bit of the movie was filmed in some rugged Alaska terrain where Aaron, the main character, has to survive. It gets pretty intense.

3) The Big Year

Surprise! This funny film staring Steve Martin, Jack Black, and Owen Wilson was shot in Alaska where there are plenty of species of birds.

4) The Proposal

No surprise here. This cute film with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds was set in Sitka, Alaska. The movie really makes you want to visit.

5) Resident Evil - Afterlife

This movie used a lot of scenery shots of Alaska for several scenes in the movie.

6) The Grey

This film is all about surviving Alaska. The group of men in the film are forced to survive in Alaska after their plane crashes. Freezing or starving to death are the least of their worries.

7) 30 Days of Night

Ah yes, the eerie vampire horror film. Of course it had to be set in Alaska where 30 days of night is a real thing. What better place to set a vampire movie than in a state that experiences 30 days of night every winter?

The film is an adaption of the famous book following the travels of Christopher McCandless and his time in Alaska. A must see!

The Guardian is a great film for all ages and it really pulls at those heart strings. Most of the scenes were shot in Kodiak Alaska where an intense rescue takes place.

10) The Fourth Kind

This well known science fiction horror film was set in Nome, Alaska but was filmed in Canada where the scenery holds little resemblance to the actual setting of the movie. Still, it will give you goosebumps!
