The giant earthquake flickr/ josh s jackson While Oregon doesn't often have to deal with earthquakes (at least not compared with other states like California), the entire Pacific Northwest is said to be due for a giant earthquake. No one knows when it will happen or just how detrimental it will be, but there are many theories and speculations. 8. Outdoor recreation accidents flickr/ Ed Suominen Oregon is know for its gorgeous scenery and exceptional outdoor activities. Though there are many ways to do go on adventures safely, there is always some chance of an accident happening, whether it's an avalanche or a sprained ankle. 7. Driving in the rain flickr/ Oregon Department of Transportation To many of us Oregonians, driving in the rain is just a regular part of life. However, it takes some getting used to, and the roads are definitely more dangerous in rainy conditions. 5. Rattlesnakes flickr/ Kameron Perensovich People don't always think of Oregon as rattlesnake territory, but parts of central, eastern, and southern Oregon are home to the Western Rattlesnake. It's quite rare to get bitten by one, but always make sure to watch where you step when you're hiking just in case. 4. Poison oak flickr/ Glen Scott Poison oak can be found in many Oregon forests; be sure to get to know what the plant looks like and avoid letting it touch your bare skin. 3. Cougars flickr/ Micheal J While there certainly are cougars around, it's actually quite rare for them to harm humans. Just make sure not to get too close or make them feel threatened (especially if there are baby cougars around). 2. Overeating flickr/ Holly Hayes There's just... so much... amazing food... 1.
