Most People Have Long Forgotten About This Abandoned Ghost Town In Rural Oklahoma
Reed, an abandoned town in western Oklahoma, offers a glimpse into the past with its deserted buildings and remnants of history.
Oklahoma is no stranger to abandoned towns. From the east to the west side of the state there are hundreds of ghost towns that most people have long forgotten about. One, in particular, located in western Oklahoma close to the border of Texas, is still littered with memories, homes, and a whole lotta Okie junk.
Take a look:
Reed is located in far western Oklahoma in Greer County. It's close to the border of Texas, just off State Highway 9.
The town opened its first post office on September 16, 1892, and now it's just a small, lonely unincorporated community.
It's said to have been named for the first postmaster, John Reed Graham.
If you drive around town you'll be surrounded by abandoned buildings.
Not to mention a creepy cemetery.
Inside these buildings, you'll find tons and tons of junk (and cool stuff). This old school still has desks and books left over...
...and an old organ. Do you think it's still in tune?
Life in Reed isn't like it was in the good 'ole days. There are not very many people left who can shed light on its history.
There's even a cross made out of sticks and posted on a door.
