The Small Town In Montana You’ve Never Heard Of But Will Fall In Love With

In Montana, small towns are our pride and joy. If you're born in raised in the Treasure State, nearly everyone you meet will have come from a town that's low in population but big on charm.

But in a state this vast, it's easy for some spots to slip under our radar. Boulder is one of them. While many people have heard of Boulder Hot Springs, the town of Boulder itself remains an underrated gem.

Boulder is situated on the north bank of the Boulder River between Butte and Helena in Jefferson County.

Because of its unique location, it's sometimes overlooked, even by locals.

About 1,200 people live in Boulder, so it definitely has a small town vibe.

Luckily, that's just the way the people who live here like it.

Boulder's biggest claim to fame, so to speak, is Elkhorn State Park.

The remnants of this 19th century mining town have been well-preserved at this beautiful and remote park.

Of course, the town itself is also pretty charming.

The Boulder Farmer's Market runs every Thursday from July through September, and local festivals like The Fiddle Fest and the Boulder Car Show liven things up.

The Jefferson County Courthouse, which dates back to 1888, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Boulder was once a regional trading center for farmers, ranchers, and miners since it was established as a stagecoach station. Therefore, there's a lot of local history here.

And of course, no visit to Boulder is complete without a visit to Boulder Hot Springs.

This beautiful historic retreat center may or may not be haunted, but it's definitely an amazing and relaxing place to spend some time.
