Wyoming doesn’t get a very long summer, but it does get hot out here for several weeks of the year. When the western sun beats down, head to any of these natural lakes in the Cowboy State to cool off.
You'll find the Long Lake at the end of a 2.5 mile trail near Pinedale. This beautiful mountain lake is the perfect spot for a secluded swim.
The hike down to Crater Lake is steep, but only about 3 miles out and back. Many people hike down to the lake, camp out here, and enjoy splashing in the water all day and all night.

Enjoy unparalleled views of Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest along the 4.9 mile out-and-back Lookout Lakes trail. When you find the lakes, jump on in!
Buffalonians love the Sherd Lake trail. It's just 3.3 miles out and back, and the water is perfect for a swim or some fishing.
Fremone Lake is Wyoming's second largest lake, and it's one of our top summer destinations. Located near Pinedale, it's an amazing spot to hit the water on a boat or on float - or you can jump right in.
Swim along Guernsey Reservoir - a dammed up portion of the North Platte River - for a refreshing adventure. There are several swimming beaches, a campground, a boat launch, and hiking trails throughout this entire park.
String Lake is one of the most underrated places in Grand Teton National Park. Enjoy this gorgeous mountain lake with friends on a hot summer day. It's the perfect spot for a picnic!

This scenic natural basin near Buffalo is a great spot to relax and escape the heat. Take a dip in the lake to cool off, and then explore the preserved segments of the Bozeman Trail ruts nearby.
