If you're looking for a place to explore without having to deal with the massive crowds of Yellowstone or Grand Teton National Park, Sinks Canyon is the perfect alternative. There is so much to see and do at Sinks Canyon State Park outside of Lander, Wyoming. It's great for camping and hiking, and the namesake "sinks" and "rise" of the Popo Agie River makes this park truly one of a kind.
Sinks Canyon State Park, just outside of Lander, is a beautiful park that's sure to take your breath away the first time you visit.
This unique canyon follows the Middle Fork of the Popo Agie River, and there are places to camp, hike, and fish within the park's boundaries.
Camping is a popular thing to do here! In fact, even if you don't like primitive camping, you'll love the glamping yurts with heat and cozy accommodations that make year-round camping a possibility.
Sinks Canyon is named after a natural phenomenon that occurs here. At the Sink, a cavern in the ground, the river slips under the surface of the Earth and disappears completely...
... only to return again at the Rise, downstream, where it comes back up. Underground rivers are not a common thing! This is one of Wyoming's most underrated natural wonders.
One of the coolest parts of a visit to Sinks Canyon State Park is crossing the roaring river on the swinging bridge.
The bridge isn't too high, so even if you're afraid of heights, you'll appreciate the view!
Come visit Sinks Canyon State Park any time of year and you'll be treated to beautiful views of the Wind River Range, the Popo Agie River, the Sinks, the Rise, and tumbling river cascades along the way.
