The Oldest Operating Diner In Wyoming Has Been Serving Mouthwatering Burgers And Pie A La Mode For Over 75 Years
If you are a young whippersnapper you might not remember the old drive-in burger joints from the 1950s. But it’s not too late to experience an epic burger and pie a la mode from Grub’s Drive-In. Cruising up on 80 years in business, this iconic diner in Wyoming has been serving the best burgers in town since 1946!
After World War II in a small single-highway town like Rock Springs, Wyoming the only viable option to provide for your family was to work in the coal mine. Nick’s mother didn’t want that life for her only living son.
With the help of his mother and sisters, Nick “Grub” Skorup opened Grub’s Drive-In - the rest is history.
Grub’s is a nostalgic small-town diner where you go for the friendly family-like service and a chat with locals who have been coming here for forty years, just as much as you do for the good food.
This old nostalgic diner has the classic horse-shoe counter seating that brings you back to the days when you’d chat with your buddies catching up with the latest town gossip while grabbing breakfast and a cup of Joe.
Grub’s Drive-In opened in the spring right around St. Patrick’s day. To this day their signature burger is the Shamrock. A double patty quarter pounder with cheese and fantastic hand-cut fries.
Along with a delicious chicken taco or Meatball and tortellini soup, you can expect decades-old classics like tomato, minestrone, French onion, and ham and bean soup just like grandma used to make.
One of our favorite traditions is the revolving homemade pies of the week. Each week there is a new selection of pies to choose from.
There is nothing like stepping back in time for a slice of pie a la mode after a good meal at the counter.
New owners Toby Rogers and Nichole Smith have taken over the family tradition from Dave and Marcy Skorup (Nick’s son and daughter-in-law). They are dedicated to continuing the Grub’s legacy well past the big 100-year anniversary!
While they are carrying on the tradition of good old family-friendly service and hearty diner food, they are also bringing a few updates to the drive-in. Grub’s is now open on Saturdays for the first time in 20 years, and they offer Door Dash delivery if you aren’t able to make it out in person.
If you find yourself in Rock Springs, Wyoming stop by for a visit. There will be a juicy burger and a hot slice of pie waiting for you. Let us know what you think. Before you head to Rock Springs be sure to read about its sordid gangster history – you might be surprised by what you find.
