Few People Know This Impossibly Small Town In Wyoming Is The Highest Community On Route 80

The United States Interstate System is truly a planning marvel. Highways criss-cross the land, creating pathways through mountains and over rivers in ways that may seem impossible to anyone who isn't an engineer. One of the country's busiest routes, I-80, passes through a big chunk of Wyoming, and the Cowboy State has certainly left its mark on the route.

I-80 is one of America's most iconic routes. It starts in New York City and travels all the way west to San Francisco. It's truly a coast-to-coast route, and the highest community along the way is here in Wyoming.

You might not even notice the elevation gain, as there's no winding mountain passes or steep grades. Once you roll past Cheyenne, toward Laramie, you'll be approaching the little town of Buford.

When we say little... we mean it. Buford has a population of 1, but lots of visitors swing by to see the town's few attractions.

This little town is worth a quick stop. With a population of 1, there isn't too much to see...

...but tbe Buford Trading Post serves up good coffee and snacks, and you can snag a souvenir, if you'd like.

The Ames Brothers monument pays tribute to railroad tycoons. The intercontinental railway once passed right by, but it was rerouted, and the Ames Brothers themselves ended up disparaged by political scandal.
