Ride Through Wisconsin’s Northwoods Landscape While Sipping Wine On The Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad
There are a lot of beautiful places to enjoy a glass of wine in Wisconsin, but why settle on just one? The Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad will put your cocktail hour in motion with a wine and cheese train that gives participants a chance to take in the ever-changing Northwoods scenery while enjoying a special vintage. Here’s what you need to know about the Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad’s Wine & Cheese Train:
The Trego-based Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad operates a historic train excursion on a 26-mile stretch of track. It’s been entertaining passengers with unique experiences since 1997.
The trains run from Spooner to Springbrook and the railroad has a collection of vintage locomotives and historic train cars that it uses on the journeys.
The line has a variety of experiences, including dinner trains, bed and breakfast trains, and scenic sight seeing tours. They are a great way to relax and enjoy some gorgeous scenery.
The Wine & Cheese train is particularly memorable. The trip includes four samples of Wisconsin-produced wine and award-winning cheese varieties from local cheese makers.
The train is as historic as it is beautiful – the lounge car was built in 1956 for the Santa Fe Railroad to transport first-class passengers from Chicago and Los Angeles. As you sip your wine, you can imagine the rich and famous who once relaxed on this same train!
You can make reservations for the Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad’s Wine & Cheese Train excursions on the line’s website. Excursions vary throughout the year and include regular special events.
