The Snow-Covered Train Ride In Wisconsin That’s Wonderfully Magical
Wisconsin’s Northwoods is gorgeous in every season, but there’s just something ethereal and magical about it in winter, when the snow clings to the tree branches and there’s a stillness to everything. One of the best ways to get out an explore some of the most untouched and gorgeous scenery is to take the Wisconsin Great Northern Train out of Spooner.
The Great Northern Train is an awesome bed and breakfast train, but you don't have to commit to an overnight experience to take part. In the winter, you'll want to check out the Dinner Train. For just $60, you'll get a minimum of three hours on board and a multi-course meal. This train boards between 5 pm and 6 pm each Tuesday through Saturday evening. You can either stop by the bar and grab a cocktail in the lounge car or head right to your table in the dining car.
This really is an ideal way to discover the local countryside and get to enjoy a leisurely experience that's like traveling into the past. The train is comfortable and fun - a total throwback.
The train travels at a very leisurely pace and you are able to get up and move around the train as it glides through farm fields, deep woods and along the scenic Namekagon River. Halogen lighting under the car illuminates the countryside after dark during early and late season runs.
You'll love the views of the surrounding forest and river valley. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife and get lulled by the gorgeous passing scenery and the sway of the train.
Around 9 pm the train returns to the station and parks for the night. The train is open all night so you don't have to hurry off - indulge in another drink or stay and chat with new friends. This whole experience is about slowing down and taking it all in.
Wisconsin Great Northern Train is located at N6639 Dilly Lake Road, Trego, WI 54888. You can see their schedule and buy tickets
