The Amazing Natural Ice Skating Rink In Wisconsin You’ll Want To Visit
Tenney Park is a small spot in Madison just off of Lake Mendota that has its own lagoon that circles through it. In winter, when that lagoon freezes up, this spot becomes one of the best spots in the state for outdoor ice skating — and you’re going to want to visit this year.
This gorgeous spot is truly an ice-skating dream. You get to follow the loop under bridges and really experience outdoor ice skating.
There is a warming house with restrooms and concessions that open once the water is frozen. The hours are Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. There are hockey and figure skates for rent, as well as hockey sticks and a local business sharpening skates, as well.
In addition, throughout the winter, there are special events, like Glow and Glide, to make the experience extra special.
The ice definitely fills up on nice days, but you'll find pick-up hockey games and plenty of friends to play with.
But if you're willing to brave it on colder days, you'll find you have the ice to yourself.
It's a great spot for young skaters to learn and take their first strides.
Tenney Park's ice rink is just so joyful and the embodiment of everything wonderful about winter.
Grab some friends, put on some layers, and plan to head out for a wonderful experience.
Adult skate rentals are $6 for the first hour and kids are $3 for the first hour. Additional hours are $2.
Of course, the hours of operation are fully dependent on ice conditions and the city parks department keeps a close eye to make sure everyone stays safe.
Whether you're a seasoned skater or just stepping out for the first time, Tenney Park is an awesome, natural outdoor spot to skate.
You won't regret taking the time to head here and lace up some skates.
Tenney Park is located at 1414 E Johnson St, Madison, WI 53703.
