Take Lumberjack Steam Train To An Old Wisconsin Logging Camp For An Unforgettable Adventure
Does taking a trip back in time sound like fun? If so, you’ve got to pay a visit to Camp 5 Museum. Far from your typical museum, this one is located at the site of an old logging camp from the 1800s. But the best part is how you get there, which is aboard a vintage steam train. Take a look:
Please note, Camp 5 Museum was closed Summer 2021, but expects to open again in summer 2022.
Revisiting the past is as easy as traveling to Laona, where you’ll find Camp 5 Museum. Truly unique, the museum is located at an old logging camp and can only be reached by train.
The fun begins at Soo Line Depot, which is where you’ll board the Lumberjack Steam Train. Step inside the depot to purchase your train ticket, just like people did at the turn of the century.
The whole experience is both educational and fun. There’s a blacksmith shop, which houses a museum, and an old slaughterhouse, which is now a petting zoo.
In addition to historic sites, the grounds include several natural attractions, like a nature trail and nature center. You can even take a guided tour of the surrounding forest in a motorized surrey.
Lumberjack Steam Train and Camp 5 Museum operates seasonally June – October. During that time, it’s open 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Tuesday – Saturday. For more information, call (715) 674-3414. Additionally, you can visit the Lumberjack Steam Train website or Facebook page.
