The Small Town Wisconsin Bakery That’s Well Worth The Drive
The far western part of Wisconsin is full of delightful small towns with tons of hidden gems just waiting to be discovered. Lancaster is a small town about 30 miles north of Dubuque and 20 miles east of the Mississippi River. This part of the state isn’t necessarily one people tend to wander around much, but there are tons of great little shops and restaurants to discover. When you head to this part of the state to visit Platteville or Wyalusing State Park, a side trip to Lancaster to stock up on fresh baked goods from Blue Boy Bakery is a must.
Please note, Blue Boy Bakery has permanently closed.
During these uncertain times, please keep safety in mind and consider adding destinations to your bucket list to visit at a later date.
Blue Boy Bakery began with the simple idea of bringing fresh bakery to the people of Lancaster.
Since they're the only fresh option in town, they don't specialize in any one item, but serve up a wide variety of baked goods, from sweets like cakes, cookies, and donuts to fresh bread and rolls.
The head baker and master cake decorator here have a combined 55 years of baking experience.
Everything here is made from scratch. There's a crew here all night creating and prepping delicious baked goods that are ready the second the doors open first thing in the morning. Of course, there's fresh coffee to accompany the goodies, as well.
The donuts here are legendary and will remind you of the simple, delicious treats of your youth.
Fancy, over-the-top donuts might be all the rage right now, but Blue Boy Bakery doesn't need gimmicks. These donuts start with fresh, yeasty dough and are finished with delectable toppings. You won't be able to stop at just one cruller or long john.
No matter the holiday or celebration, Blue Boy has you covered.
They've got a wide selection of amazing cakes for every occasion, but they don't stop there. You'll find hot cross buns at Easter, king cake at Mardi Gras and all the Christmas cookies you could ever want. They make their own version of Girl Scout cookie flavors, and it's the place to go to order Thanksgiving pies.
Whether you're having a backyard barbecue or just need fresh bread for your weekly lunches, these folks have you covered.
The wall of freshly baked bread products is kind of amazing. Burger and brat buns, dinner rolls, sandwich bread, flavored bread, focaccia, sourdough - Blue Boy Bakery makes it all.
The bakery is located in a gorgeous, renovated building in downtown Lancaster. You'll love coming into Blue Boy and hanging out with the regulars over their coffee.
When you come here, come hungry and be prepared to grab plenty of yummy treats to take with you, as well.
You can treat your sweet tooth for days with a visit to Blue Boy. Start with donuts for breakfast, then grab cookies and brownies for a snack before nabbing a cake or pie for your dinner dessert.
The very best part about Blue Boy Bakery is that they've made it a one-stop-shop.
In what they call their local market, you'll find fresh cheese, locally made sausages and meats, mustards, honey, and other condiments. Once you grab Blue Boy's rolls, you'll be set to have a delectable, locally-sourced meal. It's an amazing collection of foods from local purveyors that just shows how committed this place is to serving their community.
No matter what you love, Blue Boy Bakery delivers.
Gorgeous cakes, perfect pies, bright and delightful cookies, and fresh-baked bread make this the kind of place you would happily drive out of your way to visit.
