The resort has a long history. In the 1800s, friends Frank Stout and Thomas Wilson, Jr., bought islands on the lake for a hunting and fishing retreat. In the early 1900s, Stout used his riches to build resort that was pure rustic luxury.
Much of the complex was built in 1912 and no expense was spared – the construction cost an an astounding $1.5 million, or about $39 million in today’s dollars.
Today guests still reap the benefits of the investment. The resort ferries visitors to the island by boat and when they arrive, they are treated to an amazing experience.
The resort has 43 well-appointed guest rooms that are sprinkled across 11 cabins and lodges. An expansive dining room with impressive lake views serves delicious resort meals and guests enjoy golfing, hiking, fishing, or simple Northwood relaxation.
