In southeast Wisconsin, you can find a slice of heaven, and it’s shaped like an “O.” Racine is a capital of kringle, a sweet Danish delight brought here by immigrants generations ago. It’s a delicacy that people drive hours for, and some of the best kringle is waiting for you at O&H Danish Bakery. It’s a business that’s been around for a long time for good reason – its kringle is to die for. Here’s why.

The bakery is located on the west side of Racine, about 90 minutes north of Chicago and 30 minutes south of Milwaukee. Racine is called the "Most Danish City in America."
If you’ve never had Racine kringle, you need to try it. It’s hand-rolled Danish pastry dough that’s allowed to rest overnight before it's shaped into an oval, filled, baked, and iced.
It’s a flat pastry, and a slice is perfect served with a cup of morning coffee. Unless you have a big appetite, you’ll have plenty to share with friends. A typical Racine Kringle weighs about 1.5 pounds.
Kringle that was made in Racine 100 years ago was pretty simple – it was shaped like a pretzel, and there were few flavor options - but times have changed. O&H has 19 daily flavors, with even more options available during the holidays. Go with a classic like almond, or a decadent option like turtle!
O&H has a lot of other tempting options in the bakery case, and they're all delicious. If the kringle seems like more than you can eat in one sitting, don’t worry – many Wisconsinites freeze kringle and bring it out for special occasions!
O&H is open daily, and it also has a few other locations in the area. See all the details, including business hours, pricing information, and a full menu here. If you still have a hankering for something sweet after visiting this Danish sugar palace, here are some more decadent Wisconsin bakeries you really have to visit.
