The Midwest ice cream and custard debate can spark some heat. But regardless of which camp you fall into, we think it's all delicious! In business since 1942, Leon’s Frozen Custard in Wisconsin is a tried and true (and tasty) tradition for many Wisconsinites. Delicious food and delectable desserts are only half of the eatery’s appeal, though. The other half comes from its authentically retro vibe. It’s truly a blast from the past!
Located in Milwaukee, Leon’s Frozen Custard has been helping people break their diets since 1942.
Authentically retro, the drive-in’s appearance has barely changed since the 1950s when it was remodeled.
Its looks aren’t the only thing that’s remained unchanged throughout the decades, though. Since opening, this beloved shop has been owned and operated by the same family.
The menu has also been a constant since the beginning.
Serving up a quintessential drive-in fare, the main focus of the menu is dessert, particularly frozen custard.
You'll find around 20 flavors on the menu, including refreshing summer options like pineapple, banana, and lime, along with flavors that go perfectly with winter, like marshmallow, hot fudge, and caramel.
Sundaes, sodas, splits, cones, pints, shakes, floats...however you want your custard, they'll make it happen!
Plus plenty of traditional toppings to mix it up a little bit.
But Leon’s doesn’t serve just any frozen custard. It serves the “freshest and finest frozen custard available anywhere.” Even the sign says so.
Of course, it’s not just sweets on the menu. There are also hot dogs, chili dogs, and a Spanish hamburger, which is like a Sloppy Joe.
But of all the things this custard shop has going for it, one of the best has got to be that it’s open all year long!
Meaning even if you're craving frozen custard in Wisconsin in the dead of winter, they've got you covered.
Cheers to custard!
