If you’re willing to put in a bit of effort to reap a reward, you’ve got to make the trek to Juniper Rock Overlook. The hike to the overlook can be a bit strenuous at times. However, the end view, which is both expansive and stunning, makes all the effort completely worth it.
Juniper Rock Overlook is in southern Bayfield County, between Grand View and Cable.
More specifically, it’s situated within the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and is located along the North Country Scenic Trail, which spans thousands of miles from North Dakota to New York.
The hike to the overlook is rated as “moderate to difficult” since the terrain is rocky and steep at times.
Though the trek can be a bit strenuous, it’s not too long. All in all, the hike is about ½ mile and takes roughly 20 minutes.
At the end of the hike, you’ll be met with panoramic vistas of the Marengo River Valley.
Make sure to bring a camera!
The expansive views from atop Juniper Rock are the highlight of the hike; however, that doesn’t mean your adventure is over when you reach the overlook.
If you continue on the trail from the overlook, you’ll be led to a bridge that spans the Marengo River.
The trail also includes two other lookouts and the remnants of a Swedish settlement from the late 1800s.
Brimming with immense beauty, it's not too surprising that this is one of the most popular sections of the North Country Trail in the Chequamegon National Forest. For more information, check out the North Country Trail website or Facebook page. Want directions? Click here.
