Door County’s Costal Byway Features A Tunnel Of Trees In Wisconsin And It’s Positively Magical
Sometimes the destination is the journey, and in one special place, the destination delivers mile after mile of leafy magic. The Door County Costal Byway takes drivers on a magical trip up and down the Door County peninsula, through lakeside villages and wild state parks and under a lush canopy of trees. It’s one of the best drives in Wisconsin. Here’s what’s waiting for you on the Door County Coastal Byway.
Designated in 2010, the Door County Coastal Byway is a 66-mile scenic loop that travels along the two main roads that take travelers into Door County - highways 42 and 57.
The route runs from Sturgeon Bay all the way to Gills Rock. While the highways are the busiest roads in northern Door County, they are also incredibly scenic.
Some of the prettiest driving can be found at the far northern end of the route. Past Gills Rock, the drive enters a windy tree-lined stretch that is one of the most photographed-spots in the county.
The drive is gorgeous in any season, but it's particularly stunning during the fall when the leaves on the trees change color and provide a beautiful display of reds, oranges, and yellows.
