The Wisconsin Beach That’s Unlike Any Other In The World
Way up at the tip of Door County sits Washington Island. This little breakaway from the tip of the peninsula is home to one of the most unique beaches in the world.
On the north side of the island there’s a bit of an inlet. Washington Harbor has carved out a little niche and right at the bottom sits Schoolhouse Beach State Park.
Comprised entirely of limestone rocks with nary a grain of sand in sight, a visit to this beach is a truly one-of-a-kind experience.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. The water here is crystal clear, letting you see down to the bottom where the limestone rocks lay.
It's definitely difficult to remember that you're at the far reaches of the Wisconsin state line when you take in the natural beauty of Schoolhouse Beach.
This used to be the location of the first school on the island, but now it's a peaceful, tree-lined beach that's great for summer dips. It also provides a really cool background when fall hits and the leaves start to change.
