We know—West Virginia is a landlocked state, so we don’t have any traditional coastal beaches to enjoy. Don’t let that stop you from enjoying one of the many swimming areas in West Virginia! We may be landlocked, but there are still plenty of places to make a splash this summer. Add these wonderful swimming spots in West Virginia to your list this summer:

1. Summersville Lake

The Battle Run area of Summersville Lake is home to a gorgeous beach. Summersville Lake is a dreamy retreat that is complete with stunning scenery, including a lighthouse and cabins. You can visit Summersville Lake Retreat at GPS coordinates N 38.19950, W -80.8660.

2. Sutton Lake

If you're visiting this lake in Braxton and Webster counties, check out Bee Run Beach. Bee Run Recreation Area is complete with a marina and a playground. It's the perfect place to picnic! Visit it off of Bee Run Rd., Sutton, WV 26601.

3. Jennings Randolph Lake

Jennings Randolph Lake is located in Mineral County, West Virginia and Garrett County, Maryland. If you visit, check out Shaw Beach. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers meticulously maintain this area. Visit this spot at Jennings Randolph Lake, Elk Garden, WV 26717.

4. Tygart Lake State Park

The beach area at Tygart Lake State Park had been closed for several years, but it reopened to the public in 2014. It has a renovated bathhouse and picnic area, gift shop and horseshoe and bocce ball courts. There are also kayaks for rent! Visit this park at 1240 Paul E Malone Rd, Grafton, WV 26354.

5. The Stuart Recreation Area in Elkins

There's a nice beach at Shavers Fork in the Stuart Recreation Area of the Monongahela National Forest. This area is also incredible for fishing and camping! Visit this spot in Elkins, WV 26241.
