Blackwater Falls and Sandstone Falls are famous West Virginia icons, but there are many other under-rated falls throughout the state. One of them is Brush Creek Falls in Mercer County.

Just a few short miles from Interstate 77 at the Athens exit (Exit 14) in West Virginia, you can find one of West Virginia's many hidden treasures: Brush Creek Falls.

Located in Brush Creek Nature Preserve, Brush Creek Falls forms as the creek rushes over a rock overhang.

Although short, the trail to Brush Creek Falls is rocky, so we recommend sturdy hiking shoes.

Part of what makes these falls so stunning is the area under and behind the falls, which you can glimpse more or less easily depending on the water level of Brush Creek at the time of your visit.

Because of the unique rock formations in the creek, the falls are picturesque at any time of the year, and they are a popular destination for photographers.
