There’s A Little Town Hidden In The West Virginia Mountains And It’s The Perfect Place To Relax
Do you want to get far away from it all? Well, there is a little town up in the mountains that’s just the place for you. It is quiet and secluded, but also tucked in the backyard of one of the state’s most popular ski resorts. It’s like going off the grid, but close enough to the grid that it can still be seen.
Slaty Fork, located about 14 miles north of Marlinton on U.S. Route 219, is a little town in the mountains of Monongahela National Forest with a population of 80 people (as of the last census).
Its relative obscurity, and its heavily forested environs, make it a perfect place to get away from it all. But it is also close to Snowshoe Resort, if you feel like a little adventure.
If you are looking for somewhere to stay during your visit, a good bet is the Morning Glory Inn, located at 71 Spring Road.
The Inn has beautiful rooms and offers a hearty breakfast to all guests. They even have a secluded room for guests with pets.

While in Slaty Fork, expect to be treated to great views and several places to explore.
Places such as this offer visitors an opportunity to find a peaceful, serene spot to enjoy nature and relax. It is nestled deep in the mountains, providing some of the best views that West Virginia has to offer.
The town sits along the banks of the Elk River. You can relax to the sound of water flowing through the woods, far away from the din of heavy traffic and other disturbances associated with life in larger cities.
Slaty Fork is also the location of Sharps Cave, a large cave system with an underground waterfall. If you wish to visit Sharps Cave, you will have to contact local cavers, as the cave itself is not owned by the National Parks Service and does not have tours. It is simply a natural structure popular with outdoor enthusiasts.
The town is also located near Gauley River Trail, a 20 mile trail that takes you along step river gorges and through lush woods.
It is located halfway between Slaty Fork and Marlinton (14 miles apart). But you don't even have to take a short drive to explore the woods, because Slaty Fork is surrounded by nothing but woods.
And you cannot leave without a visit to the Elk River Inn and Restaurant, located at 34037 Seneca Trail. While there, you will enjoy a gourmet dinner and beautiful scenery. So, whatever your reasons for wanting to get away, a place like Slaty Fork is a pretty good bet.
