This One Of A Kind Restaurant In West Virginia Is Fun For The Whole Family
Chances are pretty good that you will never eat at a restaurant quite like this one. Hillbilly Hot Dogs in Lesage (near Huntington) is a very unique experience for the entire family – and one they won’t soon forget.
Hillbilly Hot Dogs takes a largely stereotypical archetype of the southern hillbilly and turns it on his head, turning the word into a theme that became the most unique restaurant of its kind.
The restaurant owners repurposed an old school bus (once the entire restaurant) and a facsimile of a typical hillbilly "shack" to create the restaurant's look.
The same design aesthetic continues inside, with decorations involving license plates, household items and various scraps of junk to simulate what many conceive to be the typical decorations of a hillbilly home.
What they have made there at Hillbilly Hot Dogs is a restaurant for the whole family that treats every person who walks in the door as a friend. Few places have a staff more congenial or friendly.
Even fewer places have food so unique, such at this huge hot dog which the restaurant calls The Widowmaker. It's a 30 inch hot dog that weighs two pounds, garnished with toppings that weigh twice that much. This torpedo of a dog costs $32.50.
Slightly smaller than The Widowmaker is The Homewrecker, a one pound, 15-inch dog that costs $19.99. If you can eat this huge thing by yourself in less that 12 minutes, you win a free T-shirt. If you can eat it faster than the current record, The Homewrecker is free.
Then there is this gargantuan burger. This is called the triple wide Bubba Burger. It is the largest of the Bubba Burgers, which begin at 1/4 pound and end with this sucker, which weighs 30 pounds and can feed 50 people. It costs $150.
Not to worry, though, the menu consists mostly of regular sized food. Aside from a selection of 28 different hot dogs, they also have burgers, sides, subs, sandwiches, desserts and a kid's menu.
Hillbilly Hot Dogs is located at 6951 Ohio River Road in Lesage.
