Let's say you're in the mood for a scenic drive in WV, perhaps a drive that takes you way out into the country. And let's say you're planning to take the family along. You're looking for just the perfect destination, one that will catch the interest of everyone in the car. Perhaps a spot where you can fill up some hungry bellies with tasty food. And just maybe, a spot where you can do a little shopping for some extremely unique gifts and mementos. Well, if all that is true for you, then you need to gas up the car and head straight for Pipestem Trading Post in Athens, a fabulous family restaurant in West Virginia.
Tucked away along Hinton Road between Athens and Lerona, West Virginia, Pipestem Trading Post is well worth a trip to the country.
This country store and cafe is one of the most unique stops in the state.
Pull into the trading post's parking lot; the first thing you'll notice is the expansive front porch lined with all sorts of interesting decor, from antique tools to massive bear statues.
Inside, grab a table and order a meal of delicious country-style comfort food.
What a feast!
While you wait (or after you finish), browse the aisles of primitive-style wares and other products for a unique memento to bring home.
After all, you never know what you'll find on the shelves of a store that has a mannequin rope climbing among the rafters!
About an hour away from Pipestem is the abandoned town of Thurman. Learn more about it in this video:

Although this family restaurant in West Virginia is a bit of a drive from the nearest town, a trip way out here into the country puts you within just a few miles of - you guessed it - Pipestem Resort State Park, where you'll also find plenty of interesting attractions and activities for the whole family on this unique jaunt through rural West Virginia!
